Stay safe, use the non-radioactive mantles. I do carry several packages of new replacement mantles in the bucket. I have not replaced the glass globe either. I now carry my lantern in a 5 gallon plastic bucket wrapped in a piece of egg shell foam padding. I did have to replace the mantles once but never again since then.
